Living here in the Big Island of Hawaii
Living here in the Big Island of Hawaii we have the miracle of 11 of the 13 climates that exist on Earth. Through the years we have experienced hurricanes, tornadoes, tropical storms, fires, mudslides, tsunamis and lava flows.
The current lava flow, tho more than the normal activity, is not any worse conditions than the firehose of lava flowing into the ocean last year. In fact, according to officials, there was more VOG generated from that firehose than the current fissure activity. Most of the VOG and gases are coming from the crater located inside Hawaii Volcano National Park. It is located in a relatively isolated area in a National Park. Tho some tourist activities such as helicopter tours over the lava have been halted, Helicopter tours on the rest of the island are still going strong. Shops and businesses in the affected area obviously have been closed. The rest of Hawaii is still open for business. The fish are still in the ocean, the Westside reefs are the best snorkeling in all of the island, the waterfalls are still flowing, the surf is still great, the historic sites are still there. This is a big island. Keep in mind all of the other islands can fit on this island and still have more space. The current conditions from the volcano do not affect the rest of Hawaii.
