The Kona fishing has been off the hook!!! Lots of Blue Marlins, Striped Marlins and Mahimahi are the fare recently although some bigger Ahi and Ono are starting to make an early appearance. You can go out to the buoys and catch smaller Ahi and Skip Jack tunas for some lighter fare or bait however you see things.
If you are coming to Hawaii, definitely check out the fishing in Kona on the "Big Island". There have been so many "Granders" (1000 pound + Marlin) caught right outside the harbor by the green sea buoy that its called "Grander Alley". Any day of the year you have the opportunity to catch the fish of a lifetime!
July 2010
Tournament. All of these focusing on Marlin that are 400lbs or bigger. There have been tournaments almost everyday. The Firecracker and the World Cup Marlin Tournament followed by the Marlin Magic Tournament and now the SkinsSo far the big Marlin have been playing hard to get with just a few qualifying fish but there is a furious Ahi bite. Stay tuned for more action from the tournaments and if you want to try and catch some of the smaller species swimming around out there we can make it happen. You never know, you could hook into a beast of a Marlin as well. Remember, if you don't go fishing, you can't catch anything. What a month so far!! The Bite Me fleet has been heros this month with Marlins, Ono, and Ahi. The Bite Me 2 has had a few stellar days with big Ahi from 100lb-188lbs and a couple of huge Marlins!! One of which was 710lbs and the other 905lbs. The day they caught the 905lb'er they also caught one 130lbs big Ahi and Mahimahi. Wow!! If you can get out here, I suggest you make it happen because the fish are here we just need you to go get them!!
June 2010
The start of tournament season is here and everyone is excited!! The Marlin are spawing and so there are lots of them around as well as what they eat which is pretty much everything else. The bigger Ahi are here in full force and lots of 100lbs + are being weighed in. The night fishermen are catching are catching broadbill swordfish which is a bit unusual but great. There is so much Ahi that the Bite Me Fish Market Bar and Grill have some insane specials.
Between the Kona Classic and the Wee Guys tournaments there were lots of Ono, Mahimahi and Ahi caught. Next month starts the tournament that concentrate on the Ahi and Marlin catches. If you want to get in on the action just give us a shout. There's nothing like having money on the line to give your fishing that extra adrenaline rush.
May 2010
The guests who were able to come out with us were the lucky ones. There were lots of fish but not lots of people fishing. Some big Marlins were caught as well as nice runs on Mahimahi and Ono. The big Ahi started showing up and getting everyone excited. The Bite Me Fish Market had lots of beautiful Ahi steaks and sashimi trays.
The Bite Me Fish Market was tournament control for the first time with the radio reports, fish weigh-ins and awards party for the Kona Fishing Club. Talk about a blast!! Ono was the primary catch today along with some nice short-nosed spearfish and Mahimahi.
One of the most exciting things that happened this month was that the Bite Me Fish Market turned into the Bite Me Fish Market Bar and Grill when our liquor license got activated. As always you could eat what you caught and now you can enjoy and cold beer or wine with it as well.
We are looking forward to the start of tourist season next month. The fish are here, we just need people to go fishing.
April 2010
April is showing us lots of promising fishing. Everyone is looking forward to the Ono coming in and they are not disappointing. There has been tons of Ono showing up as well as Mahi mahi. There are even short-nosed spearfish around. The Bite Me Fleet has found some flotsum on the surface which is producing a bounty of Mahi mahi. In fact, the anglers are the ones getting tired. Come on out and see if we can tire you out too!!
March 2010
The fishing this march has been a mixed bag everything from BIG Blue Marlins to Mahimahi and BIG Ahi. El nino has been favorable in bring us the currents for great fishing. The only thing we are missing is tourists. it's a great time to come out to Kona, catch your fish and we can cook it for you too! April is shaping up to be a very fruitful time of year. Hopefully we will see you soon!!

January 2010!!!
Yeah!! It's 2010!! It was a very active year for the Bite Me fleet. The fishing was great, there were tournaments won, the Bite Me Fish Market and Grill came into being and the Bite Me 4 was acquired. Whew! What's next for 2010? The Bite Me Fish Market and Grill will morph into the Bite Me Fish Market Bar and Grill and the Bite Me 4 will become a mulit-pax vessel enabling the carriage of more that 6 people and offering guaranteed catch bottom fishing. The scale at the Bite Me Fish Market will become functional and people will be able to watch fish getting weighed in while eating fresh fish and having drinks at the "Weigh-in" Bar. So far, the fishing has picked up and the Short-nosed spearfish have arrived. Still waiting on the Striped Marlin but already Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi as well as more big Ahi have been getting caught. It's already looking good! All we're missing is you!1 Come out of the cold and into the warm that it Kona!!
December 2009
So far December has brought in some good fishing. We've still been getting some bigger Ahis (Yellowfin Tuna) as well as Mahi Mahi (Dorado) and a few Ono (Wahoo). We've also gotten a few Marlin as well, the most recent was about 500lbs. Winter waters in Kona are still very good for fishing, and we're looking forward to what they'll bring us! We ended the year with mostly Blue Marlins and the big Ahi showed up just in time for everyone's Christmas and New Year feasts and traditions. We are still waiting for the Short-nosed spearfish and Striped marlin to show up. Happy New Year to everyone!! May 2010 bring lots of good luck and prosperity to all!!
November 2009
November fishing went really well. There was a lot of ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) caught on all three of the boats, ranging from the 50lbs area, as well as up in the 150lbs area. We were also hooking up a lot of Mahi Mahis (Dorado) as well, mostly in the 20-30 lbs range. We also hooked up a few Marlins as well, staying in the 500lbs range. Surprisingly, we've still been catching Ono (Wahoo), too, some of them pushing 40lbs. Needless to say, the fishing has still been really good for this time of year. We're all looking forward to the exciting winter waters and the fish it will bring us!
October
2009
Aloha everyone its
Lola with Bite Me, well October is almost over and a lot has been happening
with the Bite Me Ohana. Our Bite Me Fish Market is doing really well. We are
getting busier by the day, thanks to word of mouth from our guest that have
enjoyed a meal with us, as well as those who have bought fresh fish to take
with them, whether they are local or visiting….. Check out our Menu tab on the
web site for what we are cooking up.
Things are coming
along on the “Bite Me 4” and we hope to have her running soon! But, we do have
3 other boats that have been doing well; here is what is happening with them.
Bite Me 1, with Capt.
Kevin Hiney and Capt. Chad Contessa, has been seeing a few Blue Marlin, they caught
some skip jack tuna (which is great to live bait for bigger fish) as well as
some mahi mahi and ono.
Bite Me 2, with Capt.
Brian Wargo, has been seeing lots of good sized Ahi tuna and Mahi Mahi. On the short trips they
have been seeing small tuna, mahi mahi, and ono as well as Blue Marlin.
Bite Me 3, with Capt.
“Diamond Dave” Bensko says
that the month of October has seen a pretty nice North current, which has
brought a nice ono run with mahi mahi and tuna as well. He has also noticed
that the buoys are doing their job in attracting “bait fish” and is looking
forward to a really busy, exciting winter on the water.
September 2009
September is here already!! Time is flying by this year. Some of the summer pelagic fish are thinning out but the year-round fish are still here with Blue Marlins, small Tunas and Mahi Mahi. The only thing missing is you!! We are coming into our slow months for tourism but the fishing is good. So if you can make it to Kona, this time of year is great with lots of fish and not many boats on the water. All the fish are waiting for you!! Congratulations to some of the luckiest people on the planet: Katy, Ashley and the rest of the nurse crew from the Hilo side!! Not only did they win the Wahine Tournament this year but when they came out again last week on the "Bite Me 2", they had another beast of a Blue Marlin on, Tagged one and boated one(it passed during the battle). The "Bite Me 3" has been busy with the Mahimahi when they've been going out and the "Bite Me 1" has been catching small Tunas and Mahi.
We are getting ready to add another addition to the Bite Me Fleet with a 43ft Delta soon to be...you guessed it..."Bite Me 4". We will be going up to Kauai and bringing it back down to the Big Island. It will be a grand adventure!!! It will be a couple of months until its 'Bite Me ready" but you know it will be awesome when she's done!!
The Bite Me Fish Market and Restaurant is starting to gather a loyal following as word of mouth gets around. You can buy fresh fish for dinner, bring in your whole fish which we'll cut up and cook for you or select one of our awesome LURE meals like the BABY BLUE(fish tacos), the PURPLE SOFTHEAD(fish plate), SMASH BAIT(fish melt) or the DISCO BALL(quesadilla) just to name a few!!
August 2009
The Kona fishing is still going strong this August with lots of Blue Marlins and Mahimahi around. Ono are sill running and the Ahi that are caught tend to be on the big side. A couple of tournaments are on course for the end of the month and word is starting to get around about the "NEW" Bite Me Fish Market. Some cool pictures coming soon for the only fresh fish market in town. Stop by the harbor and check us out!!
July 2009
The tournament fishing this month has been off the hook with lots of Marlins, Ahi, Ono and Mahimahi. Whether you were in it to win it, or just out having fun fishing, this summer has been a time to remember. The excitment continues with the HIBT (Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament) in full swing. "Bite Me 2" released Blue Marlin and the "Bite Me 3" boated a 106.5LB Ahi. Kona fishing is still red hot and ready for YOU!!!!!! The "Bite Me" boats were red hot for the Wahine Tournament not only were they kicking **s and taking names in the water fight but also "Bite Me 2" came in 5th place and the "Bite Me 3" captured the top spot winning the whole thing!! Congratulations "Aiko" and "Two" on the "Bite Me 2" for getting your first fish ever, which just happened to be Marlins and to Capt. Dave Bensko and the "Bite Me 3" girls the ARRRGoholics!!.... REPRESENTING... YEAH!! See ya next year!!
June 2009
The Kona fishing this summer is already RED HOT!!! This first week there has been ton's of action. The Marlin bite has been crazy with lots of Marlin bites and the prized GRANDER was caught. Can you believe a 1,066 pound Blue Marlin was caught this week right out front of the harbor? Actually, both big fish, the 913lb and the 1,066lb were caught just outside of Honokohau Harbor in the famous "Grander Alley". The "Bite Me 2" has been getting lots of Blue Marlin, Ono and Mahimahi. The "Bite Me 1" found a "floater" and caught 100 pieces of Mahimahi on one trip. The Ono bite has been great and the big Ahi's are here as well with the "Bite Me 3" boating a 150lb'er. Tournament season is starting this month and the currents are favorable for lots of fish. This is a great time to come to Kona and go fishing!! June Kona fishing was awesome!!!!! Looking forward to all the tournaments coming up in July.
May 2009
The Kona fishing in May is similar to April with a mixed bag of tunas, Marlins and sharks. The Ono's are starting to get thicker and the boats are starting to hit "Ono Lane". The summer fish are starting to show up with lots more Marlins as well as Ono and tuna. As the month of May goes on, the fishing will just keep getting better!! Tournament time is right around the corner. Checkout our upcoming tournaments page if you're interested in fishing one. The "Bite Me 3" landed a 913 pound Blue Marlin and the month's not even finished yet!! Check out the photos page. The Kona fishing just keeps getting better and better. Come on out and get you one!!!
April 2009
The Kona fishing in April has started off with a bang!! Already with a couple trips under our belt there has been lots of Tunas and Mahi Mahis. The "Bite Me 2" went off the hook with tons of Yellowfin , Big Eye and Skip jack Tunas as well as Blue Marlin and Mahi Mahi. Rich's crew went out for the April Fools Day Tournament and won the whole thing with Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi and Ahi. Congratulations!! Check out the photos page. The Kona fishing didn't stop there. The "Bite Me 3" has been catching the elusive Ono which is starting to show up and "Bite Me 1" is holding their own with a mixed bag keeping the action lively. The notable catches keep coming with the "Bite Me 2" boating the largest Black Marlin of the year! Awesome! The Kona fishing bite is on with "Bite Me 1" catching a couple Big Eye Tunas each over 200lbs and the "Bite Me 2" getting Blue Marlin, Big Eye Tunas and Mahimahi. April continue with lots of smaller tunas coming in as well as some big Blue Marlin. There was even an almost grander caught this month weighing in at 990lbs! May is shaping up to be great. WOW!! The fish are biting!! Let's go!
March 2009
While the weather on land was up and down it did not seem to effect the conditions under water. The "Bite Me" fleet started this month off with a bang on the "Bite Me 3" catching unseasonably large numbers of Blue Marlin in the first 5 days. Also, a great catch went to the "Bite Me 2" when Steve Anderson caught a 493lb Blue Marlin, not bad for his first Marlin. Another avid fisherman Don and his first Blue Marlin estimated at 450-500pounds was caught and released today right outside the Green Sea Buoy on "Bite Me 1". Check out a couple of his action shots on our "Photos Page". They couldn't get enough and went out the very next day and Angelo and Karen caught and released another 500 pounder. Unbelievable!!! Marlins have been getting released by all of our boats in the 200-300 pound range as well. For all you Ahi lovers, Captain Dave and crew of the "Bite Me 3" hooked up with a 124lb Yellow Fin Ahi Tuna, along with heaps of Aku (Skipjack Tuna). Sharks have been biting too, Oceanic White tips and Hammerheads along with Sandbar Sharks have been the fare. Captain Brian also got awesome underwater video footage of 15-25 large Hammerheads under the "Bite Me 2"along with footage of numerous other Marlins, Mahi Mahi, Sharks, Whale Sharks and Dolphins. And of course many of our guests went home happy with fillets of fresh Mahi Mahi, Yellow Fin Ahi, and Ono which are starting to make a triumphant return. Can't wait to see what April brings. Stay tuned.........Aloha
